It’s been about 6 months since we felt God calling us to the mission field and after searching God’s word, much prayer, and much godly counsel, we are finally at the point where we are ready to begin the fund raising process. We have been reading the book, Funding Your Ministry, and have met with some good friends who are experienced with fund-raising. Both resources have been very helpful. We’re very excited to see how God is going to work in this process, but also a bit anxious, since this is completely new territory for us.
We also still need to finish filling out a few more forms for Alternative Missions and are working on reading some other really helpful books for the whole ‘missionary’ process. One of the books we’ve read is ‘The Dream Giver’. What an amazing book!! We would highly recommend this book to anyone, not just those heading to the foreign mission field. It’s all about discovering the big dream that God has placed on your heart for your life. It was helpful to read it and be able to relate to the main character in the book. At times it felt as if the author had been a ‘fly on our wall’. It was pretty cool. The book was given to us by one of the missionaries in Puerto, and we were so thankful that he got it for us. I’m sure it’s a book we’ll reference in the future.
Our biggest challenge at the moment seems to be balancing our time between every day tasks (working, raising 3 kids, homeschooling, maintaining our home) and focusing on preparations for our calling. Please pray for wisdom/balance as we prioritize our ‘to-do-lists’ and yet continue to press in more to Christ and stay in His Word. Please also pray that we’ll be able to recognize when it is Satan attacking and causing strife in our family (which seems to be the case lately, especially amongst the kids) and not allow it to deter us from the plans God has for our family.
Pressing on towards the goal
